Concrete recycling is an easy and convenient way you can lessen your carbon footprint and help protect the environment. Concrete is one of the few materials that can be reused and recycled after a demolition project.
LCI Recycling proudly offers eco-friendly concrete recycling services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Columbia, Frederick, Towson, Annapolis, Gaithersburg, or anywhere else in our service areas. We are also proud to serve customers throughout Virginia and D.C.
Why Recycle Concrete?
In the United States alone, an estimated 140 million tons of concrete is recycled every year. Why such a high number? There a number of reasons why more businesses and homeowners are choosing to invest in pavement recycling in Maryland:
- Minimizes environmental impacts
- Can increase project efficiency
- Earn LEED credits
- Avoid landfills with high disposal costs
- Reduce landfill waste streams
These are just some of the many reasons why concrete recycling is beneficial for both residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
How Does Concrete Recycling Work?
It’s never been easier to recycle your concrete. It works by having a portable concrete recycling machine come to your project location and do the work for you. The concrete debris is picked up, dumped into the machine, and goes through a crushing impactor.
The large concrete pieces are then crushed into smaller pieces known as recycled concrete aggregate (RCA). The RCA pieces go through the process one to two times depending on how fine the concrete recycling company is looking to make it. Afterward, the RCA goes through a magnet to ensure that any rebar stell is removed and is ejected out the other end of the machine.
The RCA material created by this process can be used for a variety of things such as for:
- Foundational material
- Soil stabilization material
- Aggregate road base material
- Aggregate for new concrete
